Your research stays on your machine.

Trisynapse is local-first by design. This page lists exactly what data is and is not collected, who processes it, and the controls you have.

Last updated · June 7, 2026

1. The short version

  • Your vault (Markdown, SQLite, LanceDB) is stored locally on your device.
  • We do not read, index, or train on the contents of your vault.
  • We do not sell or share any of your data with third parties.
  • The only data we receive is what you explicitly submit via our forms.
  • You can delete your account and all server-side data at any time.

2. What lives on your device

Everything you create in Trisynapse - sources, summaries, wiki articles, chat history, feedback rules, the vector index, the SQLite metadata database - is stored inside the vault folder you chose on first launch. The desktop app is the only thing that reads and writes to it. We never upload it to a remote database. We do not sync it to a Trisynapse-controlled server. You can back it up with iCloud, Google Drive, Syncthing, or any other file-sync tool that works with regular folders.

3. What we do collect (and why)

  • Account email and license key - to authenticate you and enforce plan limits. Stored in our auth provider (Supabase).
  • Plan, billing, and invoices - for Pro and Advanced tiers, routed through DoDo Payments (or our current billing provider).
  • Email preferences - what categories of email you have opted into. You can change these anytime in Account Settings.
  • Feedback and support messages - anything you submit via the /#feedback form or /api/beta route, delivered to our team inbox via Resend.
  • Application logs - error traces and request metadata for debugging. We do not include vault contents in logs.

4. What we never do

  • Train any model on the contents of your vault, summaries, or chats.
  • Upload your vault, sources, or wiki to a Trisynapse-controlled server.
  • Sell, rent, or share any of your data with third parties for advertising.
  • Phone home with usage analytics, telemetry, or crash reporters that read your files.
  • Read your wiki articles, chat transcripts, or feedback rules.

5. Third-party processors

To run the service, we share a small amount of data with:

  • Supabase - authentication and profile storage.
  • Resend - transactional email delivery for account, license, billing, feedback, and waitlist messages. Marketing email is opt-in only.
  • DoDo Payments (or current billing provider) - for paid plans and invoices.
  • LLM providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, OpenRouter, DeepInfra, DeepSeek, Ollama) - only the parts of your vault you explicitly send to a model for summarization, compilation, or chat. With Ollama (local) nothing leaves your device.
  • Monitoring providers (arXiv, X/Twitter, Tavily) - when you enable topic monitoring, we send your monitoring keywords to those services.

6. Your controls

  • Edit your email and profile in Account Settings.
  • Cancel your subscription at any time - paid features stay active until the end of the current billing period.
  • Request full account deletion from Account Settings or by emailing us.
  • Opt out of every optional email category (monitoring digests, weekly summaries, product updates, marketing).
  • Disable telemetry-style logging by running the app with --no-remote-logging (where supported).
  • Move, copy, or delete your local vault at any time - it is just a folder.
